Following this discussion on [livejournal.com profile] kmazzy's LJ, here is my interpretation of what a combined router-sprouter birthday present might be like:

(In other news, Linux box is now (mostly) worky again, hence the scan!)

isn't it irritating that using the [lj user=...] code in the middle of a link makes it spack up.

that's such a cute sp/router. i hope it's a fabulous wireless one with its own firewall that would do broadband.

(speaking of such things, do you know stuff about buying a good router? you seem like you might.)

Now de-spacked. Thank you -- I missed the 'a' from the tag.

As for routers, I've not bought one in a long time, so it's difficult to be specific. I've generally found Netgear kit to be quite good, but beyond that, if you find one online and want me to have a look at it's spec before you buy it, I'm happy to do that.

thank you very much - i'm looking at the weekend so i suspect you may be busy with partylike things, but i still might run it by you anyway. i fret about buying computer related things. i want the best for my baby Mr Spiff. (he's my laptop. he's shiny and i loooooooooooooove him.)

Awwwww...

You might catch me online at the weekend, but with parties both days it's not necessarily *that* likely...

If you're after a wireless+wired router/firewall with support for ADSL then I can recommend the Netgear DG834g - reasonably cheap, easy to set up, works well, source code for the firmware is available (which you probably don't care about).

Firewall? Just keep the sprouts damp enough not to burn!
