Am fine, and I appreciate it's nothing by Californian standards, but it scared the crap out of me!

A 4.7 is enough to cause minor damage if you're on top of it, so it's not completely trivial.

I was about 15 miles from a 5.6 (nearly an order of magnitude more energy than the UK quake) a few months ago -- I was in mid-forward-roll in the ninjutsu dojo I go to, and basically missed it and was wondering why everyone was running for the door once I was the right way up. No prizes for me for being observant.

Heh. :) That's a pretty funny earthquake story there.

(We thought it was someone stomping around on the roof at first; it took a while for things to start moving where we could see them.)

*giggles* It would only have been funnier if you had punched a wall exactly at that moment and it had crumpled. Ninja Powers! ;o)

It's partly to do with the conditions of the ground and buildings beforehand, of course. Some friends of mine down in Folkestone are almost done with the repairwork to their house, from the quake there. The problem was partly that so many other people nearby needed the same sort of repairs done at the same time.

just a wobble in Cambs. Epicenter was apparently around Lincoln.

Yay, something for The Echo (http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/) to report.

But what if a barn catches fire tonight, too, or an illegal gin trap is found in Louth? What to do?

Didn't notice a thing, and this is the quietest part of North London. I was awake, too.

Slept right through it. Things in the house seem to be in slightly different positions to last night but nothing serious. My mum was closer and said the entire house was vibrating.

The earth moved for me (and I was on a conference call to some cow-orkers, people at the US parent company and a telco and I blurted out "What the fuck?! We're having an earthquake" - very classy).

had just got into bed - shaking and rattling slightly alarming but passed quickly. similar to heavy lorry or helicopter but without the accompanying sounds. dint twig it was a quake til i heard it on the radio. i think it's more alarming if you live in an otherwise stable house - our flat wobbles from so many things including the downstairs washing machine..

I am sure there was no earth quake in North West London. I did not even know about it. I am confused about the timing. If it was around 2 am I might have been still half awake. I am very light sleeper. If it was around 5 pm I was at home. Nothing happened here. I will investigate where it was. The internet should tell me.

I read it and understood it was just before 1 am. I was still awake. I went late to bed. I did not realize the time before I decided going to bed. I was definetely awake at that time. Everything was normal as usual.

Today, I saw in the papers headlines like: 'Quake shakes capital!', and 'London has earthquake!'.

I live in London. I slept through it and didn't know a thing until I saw the newspaper.

My parents live in Scunthorpe, about 10 miles from the epicentre, which was in a village called Market Raesen. Their house shook and furniture fell over.

I find it a little amusing that the papers are all talking about London, but there's no mention of the North-East of Britain, where the earthquake actually occured!

As a native Californian, it was extremely surprising. "Oh my gods, it's an earthquake! No, it can't be, I'm in England. . .. If I go to school tomorrow and say that I think I felt an earthquake, my classmates will think I'm mad."
