I'm not so keen on the top image, the plants and leaves don't work for me at this size. Is there are larger version online?

I generally work assuming that my final version is going to be a reasonably big print, so the first one loses a lot because of that -- I think you need a lot more detail before the photo starts to make sense. The second image isn't so dependent on texture so it works at low resolution without difficulty.
