... is exactly what I'm doing today. Just about to head to Heathrow, then to SFO, picking up hire car, driving to Mountain View. Staying there. Gulp!

Peaceful is good. I think I like the kind of boring that doesn't involve being shot at or robbed, and that has nice coffee shops and book shops in it.

Thanks... any source for adapters from UK mains plugs to US mains plugs (i.e. so I can put a UK mains plug into a US socket) locally would be incredibly useful right now. I stupidly didn't bring any. :(

Well, for adapters I guess I'd check Radio Shack or Fry's Electronics. Radio Shack especially tends to have little random electrical doodads like that.

Excellent -- there seems to be a Radio Shack at San Antonio mall, so I think I should be able to get everything I need there. It will definitely be my first port of call. Thanks!

... update ...

Yes, Radio Shack do them for about $7 each. I think I'll buy about 10 of them (I'll need them), and probably a few multiway adapters and such like. Thanks -- this will really make life far simpler.

United (has to be a US carrier or I can't claim it on expenses!)

They are pretty good anyway. No seat-back TV on this plane, but I usually read anyway. The food was good, however.

I'll give you my new phone numbers once I have them. Don't worry about not making it -- I was horrendously busy for the last couple of days anyway, and it would have been difficult to find enough time to really talk properly anyway.

They are going slow. First they told us it would be within 6 months, now they are saying that we will be lucky if it is before Demember/Janurary. John has to hire his replacement and then train him. What they are trying to do first is see if someone from the Arizona office wants to come over and take his place. So basically it could be as soon as a couple of months but it looks like it is shaping up to be around 6-8 months instead. I think I might end up going back a couple months early and getting set up with a job and finding a house or apartment. Im very excited, yet starting to stress out. How are things going there?

Well, let me know how it's going, and (of course) if there's anything I can do, being this side of the pond, do let me know.

Things are OK so far. A bit of retail therapy should sort out a lot of issues in the morning. :-)
