Well, I've finally got myself persuaded to get my old LJ style working again after the move of my web server (look at my main journal page if you've not seen it before). I couldn't resist doing a bit of hackery, so I now have a Thesis-O-Meter as part of my LJ style.

The S2 code needed a (very) minor hack, thanks to some nicely constructed code in [livejournal.com profile] mageboltrat's original style (wot I hacked horribly to create my own style). Most of the work is a little bit of C++ code on my web server used to generate the PNG image for the progress bar, and some bash hackery that automatically checks out and then word counts (via wc by way of detex) the relevant bits of my latest thesis version via CVS over SSH from my work machine. This is automagickally sproinked once an hour by a cron job. The web server just holds the most recent image, so repeated downloads never spawn the word counter.

Such excessive overkill for a mere progress bar. *pH34r the procrastination!*
