I have just ordered one of these:

I've been missing my old Handspring for years now, and increasing life complexity is making me miss a decent to do list thingummy that I can carry in my pocket. I've also been hankering after an iPod (or something similar), so this should do double duty. Basically, it's an up to date Palm with a nice transflective TFT screen, a 4GB hard drive and a 600 Mhz ARM CPU. The bundle on offer at the moment includes DVD ripping software, which makes it possible to upload movies. It has bluetooth and WiFi and does proper IMAP email with offline synchable folders, which is great for me since I have WiFi nearly everywhere I tend to be.

I can't wait for it to arrive!

*does the gadget dance*

I was torn between this, the Palm Tungsten T5 and various Windows Mobile devices. I opted for the LifeDrive for several reasons -- my main reason for wanting a new PDA is good to-do list management, and I loved my old Handspring for that. I also hate Outlook, so I don't really want to be sucked in to using such a nasty pile of smelly old pants in order to make synching possible. That, and the much greater availability of free software for the Palm platform made me decide on a no to Windows Mobile. Choosing between the LifeDrive and the Tungsten was a no brainer really -- although the Tungsten is lighter and cheaper, I'd need to buy one or more big SD cards (pushing the price up to as much as the LifeDrive anyway), and I would need to swap out the memory card whilst using an SD based WiFi card.

The bluetooth should work with my mobile phone, so I should be able to synch via GPRS out on the road -- my laptop does that fine, so I'd assume that the Palm will also.

Yee!

*sproingy bounces*

I haven't had a nice shiny gadget since my new laptop a few months ago.

And, of course, there is now MAME for the faster ARM-based Palms...

Real Galaxians in your pocket, anyone? :-)

I keep looking at buying a new PDA, but possibly a shiny PDA/phone hybrid, so that I make sure I carry it round all the time. (My usual trick is to forget to have it when it would be useful.) [livejournal.com profile] hoiho likes the Tungsten W he's got, but I've been vaguely tempted by an old Treo.

None of them, however, are as shiny as this PDA, with all its gadgety goodness. Bah.

I love my little Infiltrator (Palm Tungsten C), but that is very shiny indeed.
