This is one of the best memes for a while, well worth jumping. So here goes...

"I still believe" -- Tim Cappello (from the Lost Boys soundtrack) My favourite tune from a film that came to mean a lot to me during a difficult time in my life. My first business was crashing and burning, I was stuck living with my parents, I was under immense pressure from all sides. My main, only really, escape was a series of regular parties arranged by Melanie, a friend of mine. Her family were farmers, so she had access to a 'spare' large unfurnished farmhouse out in the middle of nowhere. They were good parties. Lost boys was played at many (if not all) of them, with its soundtrack album hitting the CD player quite hard too.

"Cars" -- Gary Numan The first single I ever bought. Oh the sound of those massed Polymoogs...

"Clair de Lune" -- Debussy Debussy was the one person with an unfailing ability to create music that pushes buttons within me that cause me to be transported out of spacetime as we know it. His chordal structures were truly breathtaking -- the only person who ever came close was Arnold Schonberg, in the part of his career before he whacked out and went completely atonal (As a slight aside, one of the most awesome musical experiences of my life was hin Oxford in 1993, listening to the Scholerae Cantorum performing a Schonberg choral motet -- it was quite different to his far harsher later works. It would be in my list, but unfortunately I have no idea what the piece was).

"Don't give up" -- Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush They were both speaking directly to me with this. "I've changed my face, I've changed my name, but no one wants you when you lose... Don't give up... you have friends".

"Oh Yeah" -- Yello The tune to remember from my favourite movie of all time, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. By a couple of loony Swiss with far too much electronic equipment at their disposal.

Glenn Gould playing Bach the way it's meant to be, take your pick, but his "Goldberg Variations"... If there was ever a pianist who sold their soul, it was him. Hope it's not too hot down there, Glenn, but it was probably worth it. I hate the way that most people play Bach -- not fast enough, and with sloppy 'liturgical' timing. Ugh. Bach works this way: play it fast, play it right, play it like you mean it. Gould got it dead right.

"Walking in the Rain" -- Grace Jones Early Grace Jones, circa the time she had Sly & Robbie playing bass and drums, with Wally Badarou on keyboards. A formative influence on my sound engineering, bass playing and keyboard playing. Not bad for one track!

"Penguin in Bondage" -- Frank Zappa From the album, 'Does humour belong in music?'. I'd have to say, yes, actually I think it does. :-) "Trussed up like a penguin... when the underpants fail"

"The Seduction of Claude Debussy" -- Art of Noise Probably my favourite band of all time, doing a tribute concept album to my favourite classical composer of all time. Couldn't fail, really could it? This album has been panned by a lot of critics, but I feel that is unfair. OK, yes, it isn't 'Close to the Edit' or 'Moments in Love', but who cares? It's completely gorgeous.

"Corc" -- Autechre, from EP5 I had a lot of trouble with this one. It might have been 'Iz-Us' by Aphex Twin, 'Tommib' by Squarepusher or maybe 'Water from a Vine Leaf' by William Orbit. I had to go for Autechre, though, because they manage to do in the context of semi-danceable contemporary music what Debussy and Schonberg did in their time -- figure out how to take an accepted musical form, then bend it to make it something more, something timeless, something trancendental.

These aren't in any particular order. One thing I will say, though... 10 just wasn't enough.
