We have received the following message from the University security
office.

Information has been received that 2 bombs have been planted in
Cambridge,
which are to be detonated at 2pm. One in the City, and the other within
the University. Will anyone who may see a suspicious package, leave the
area and contact either the Police or University Security Control Centre
immediately.

If you see a suspect package in CMS please contact a member of the
facilities staff or me.

Holy shit. The despicable IRA tried something similar in Oxford when I was there, with a bomb in one of the main bookshops which failed to detonate and was found much later, covered in dust, during a stock check! 8-O

I do hope those responsible get a visit from an MI5 wetworks team soon.

I was at ChCh at the time. They forgot to evacuate St. Aldates Quad. I remember making lunch in my kitchen, remarking to myself that the street seemed awfully quiet for the time of day. And there was a bomb, too -- only a couple of hundred yards further up the road.
