He visited Ames today as part of National Coming Out Day. He made a fantastic speech, incredibly moving. Much respect is due -- he's no dumb actor.

I went to a small GLBT gathering that had him as a speaker in Phoenix a couple years ago. Really interesting guy.

Yes, very much so. I feel greatly honoured to have had the chance to hear him speak.

Niiiice.

(Such careful handwriting for someone who must sign a lot of things, which is cool.)

No, but I should probably make an effort to get the DVDs when they come out. I think I watched an early episode and failed to get into it, but from what I've heard it took more watching than I gave it, so I'll get back to it at some point.

How are you, by the way? I've not heard from you in, like, forever!

Your hair looks lighter/redder than I remember it being. Of course, I could very well be conflating my mental image of you with that of one of my undergraduate lecturers, of whom you remind me. Lala. I make as much sense as ever :) (Also, yeah, lovely handwriting, that chap!)

It's taken on the built-in camera on my iPhone, so I think the colour is a bit off and washed out. I think my hair is a bit lighter from the sun, but the red you can see is the lighting (and crappy camera) I think.

Yes, nice handwriting, isn't it?

He was at Worldcon in Yokohama and co-presented the Hugo awards ceremony. I found him incredibly impressive as a speaker. He was representing the best side of America: socially aware, multilingual, incredibly sharp-witted.

There are a couple of pictures among my Flickr set : http://www.flickr.com/photos/valendon/sets/72157602344856544/ so you can squee some more.

Yes, indeed. At one point, he was winding up one of the other speakers (a hispanic woman who is head of equal opportunities at Ames) about pronouncing his name wrong, and flipped into fluent Spanish as he did it.

I can't remember where I read it on LJ, but Takei-San has also had an asteroid, 1994 GT9, named after him recently, It will now be known as 7307 Takei :)
