Today, I've been mostly munching wasabi peas. Which are pretty hot.

Tonight, I seem to no longer be able to taste things properly, notably sugar. I think I've (hopefully temporarily) burnt out some of my tastebuds. Very weird.

Funnily enough, I was not really aware of the existence of wasabi peas until yesterday, when I was in a pub which had jars of nuts and so on which you could buy (at ludicrous prices, needless to say). One of them was wasabi peas, and I wondered why on earth anyone would pay good money to buy dried peas.

Well, now I know...

Oh, I love wasabi peas. Especially Kasugai wasabi peas.

Excellent!

**** THE PROOF THAT badasstronaut IS EVIL ****

B A D A S S T R O N A U T
66 65 68 65 83 83 84 82 79 78 65 85 84 - as ASCII values
3 2 5 2 2 2 3 1 7 6 2 4 3 - digits added
\_________/ \_________/ \_________/ \_________/ \_/
1 6 2 3 3 - digits added

Thus, "badasstronaut" is 16233.

Subtract 6, the smallest perfect number. The result will be 16227.

Turn the number backwards, subtract 1939 - the year WW II started. The number is now 70322.

Divide the number by 002 - this is the symbol of greed, backwards. It gives 35161.

Turn the number backwards, and add 1876 - the year first crematorium in the United States opened. The number is now 18029.

Add 5181 to it - this is the year first commercial cheese factory was established, written backwards - you will get 23210.

This, when read backwards, gives 01232. This is 666 in octal, the number of the Beast...

Evil, QED.

(I found that here by the way -- you're well known, it seems).

Wasabi peas, one of my favourites...

But, I'm wondering, isn't washabi/mustard hotness perceived by the same receptors as chilli hotness? And these receptors have nothing to do with the taste receptors?

Well, those who have time will tell more (or google).

Wikipedia, alas, is insufficiently enlightening, but it gives the impression that the neurochemistry of allyl iosthiocyanate is probably different to that of capasicinoids.
