Painting

Inking was done in Illustrator, paint in Photoshop. It's based on a photo I took at the Eden project in Cornwall last year -- it's a tree with two gourds growing on it.

Oh! That's beautiful. :-)

I love the shading of the green. It looks like you could touch it.

It started as just a line drawing, but I took a bit of a fancy to it and decided to have a go at painting it in an airbrush style. One of the nice things in Photoshop is that I could keep the line drawing in a separate layer and use the magic wand tool to select areas. Just like airbrushing stencils, but without all the faffing about cutting them to shape in the first place! :-)

I painted the background with a really big diameter brush so that it would look 'out of focus' compared with the tree -- that's probably what mostly makes it look 3D.

Thanks, by the way!

I really, really like that. It's an unusual style to draw vegetables in and it works superbly :)

Whatever colors you have in your mind

Wow! I love the contrasts between the different textures of the green leaves at the top, the tunk, they sky and the brown leaves against the trunk.

Excellent work!

wow... so when do you apply for the job at Studio Ghibli?

I'm too slooooooow for animation. It would take me a year to crank out ten seconds of footage! :-)

(but thanks all the same!)
