Change of PhD subject...?

... at least according to the latest letter from the Board of Graduate Studies. It seems that I am to be studying Political Thought and Intellectual History. happily, this is still to be in the computer lab with the same supervisor, so I can't really complain that much...

Looks like I'd better phone them on Monday...

Ahh, I just love the Board of Graduate Studies. Another amusing BoGS mistake: They tried to send a friend of mine (male) to Newnham (a women's college) when his choice of college didn't have space. Yeah, erm, because "Steven" is obviously a girl's name....)

They really are quite special, aren't they?

I can confirm the story is true, since I am the Steven in question. (I found your journal via your post in [livejournal.com profile] hmw26's.) Though one correction is that they told me I would be going to Newnham since they never sent my application to my colleges of choice, not because there were insufficient places.

However, with a lot of help and support from Hanna. I eventually got through my hassles with BoGS and was placed in Girton College which I am happy with. On the bright side, if I ever write a book about my life, dealing with BoGS will make an interesting chapter and it also gives me something in common with pretty much every other Cambridge postgraduate student.

Hopefully you will have everything sorted out soon, I eventually did and now I am just about to finish my first year of a PhD in the Security Group of the Computer Laboratory (see my work website for the details).

Ohh! I'm sorry, I did know that but had forgotten. Ooops! But yes. Sarah, this is Steven. Steven, this is Sarah. You guys will presumably be working in the same building in October, which should be fun! :-)

Delighted to meet you!

It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one who has had, ahem, 'interesting' experiences with BoGS!

I'm in the final stages (I think) of being accepted by St Edmunds. In entirely characteristic fashion, I have been allocated a college room, but still haven't got a confirmed place. I know, yes, it makes no sense, but...
